FinTech, Financial Technology

MANILA – In August 2016, the leading coworking project in the Philippines and a crossroads for the innovation community, A SPACE Philippines ( takes bolder steps to further the growth of the startup ecosystem in the Philippines by launching _ACADEMY, a flexible learning environment connecting the many events, people and resources available within the innovation community. Those connections will supercharge the aspirations of entrepreneurs and startups without locking them into yet another closed training program.

Founder of A SPACE, Matthew Morrison says, “For talented entrepreneurs the learning destination is less about old school academic credentials and more about the tangible learning experiences and immediately valuable connections. With _ACADEMY we are focused on individual advantage, not long winded training programs with a framed certificate at the end of it.”

With the second fastest growing economy in Asia after China, a growing population of internet-savvy millennials, and a significant share of exports in both IT products and services, the Philippines is continuously welcoming and creating “rebellious” entrepreneurs, all committed to challenging the conventional norms by disrupting for the greater good.

With that in mind, A SPACE offers a learning reboot to give Filipino innovators an advantage as they compete for recognition locally, regionally and globally. Starting with a program called _PASSPORT, the A SPACE Academy will take a passionate, entrepreneurial mind on a journey towards innovation success. Aspiring entrepreneurs, teams, and businesses are invited to undertake “trips” led by Captains of innovation, through a series of interrelated events all designed to educate, connect, and elevate innovators.  For millennials an academic destination is not as important as the learning journey so within the _PASSPORT program the conventional college credits are replaced with tangible opportunities such as job opportunities, funded projects, international trips and access to accelerators or incubators.

_PASSPORT recently launched its first 3-month trip called “Passport to FinTech”, which invites those interested in the disruptive technology opportunities for financial services to learn how to launch or grow a FinTech business, or understand the impact of FinTech on the business they have.

Aside from the tech community, A SPACE Academy will also cater to other communities, namely arts, food and lifestyle, founders and businesses, and creatives.

_ACADEMY offers paid-for programs and also pay-as-you-go workshops, boot camps, clinics, labs, and other learning events for its members across Manila and Cebu. For more information, go to []
