A Quirky Hotel Like No Other
Planning on a trip to the Cebu this weekend? We recommend The Henry Hotel!
Hotels can be so boring. The white walls, the white linen sheets, the fluffy pillows — the usual mix of comfort and monotonous designs can be intimidating at times. And yes, boring. Yet when the whole A SPACE Manila team took a weekend trip to Cebu City, my perception about cookie-cutter design was changed forever thanks to The Henry Hotel.
The hour long ride from Cebu’s Mactan Airport was worth it as you’ll be greeted by the red statue of ‘Henry’ himself (all ready to give you a peck on the cheek or your forehead if you’re not-so-tall) — a fun first impression, especially compared to the usual marble minimalism or gold grandeur of hotels here in Manila. One word would most definitely come to mind looking at the whole vibe of the place: HIPSTER. From the staff clad in white polo/blouses + black bow tie + black-rimmed wide pair of glasses, the vintage items and signs, and the themed rooms — it is a happy hipster hotel and quirky in a very charming way.
The stairs leading to the hotel’s different themed rooms have walls with bright street graffiti and vintage posters. Anything you can find around the hotel are very out-of-the-box when it comes to design.
The Henry Hotel’s attention to detail is impressive. Aside from the rooms, they also have ‘reading rooms’ on each floor than can be accessed by guests renting the Big Rooms. There’s a room dedicated to board games, or if one of their guests is looking for a make-shift office they have one too complete with a Mac and a functional office table.
The Henry Hotel is located along Maria Luisa Road in Barangay Banilad in Cebu City. For more information about room rates, visit their official website at http://www.thehenryhotel.com. Or if you an A SPACE member, you can ask us to help you get a very special A SPACE kinda deal 🙂
